Design Story
The long, elegant proportions of this oval cut Mozambique ruby inspired us to design the ring around an east-west orientation. An open bezel follows the stone’s distinctive outline without enclosing it too heavily, allowing the rich red colour and modern cut ratio to remain the focus. With two diamonds added, one at either side, providing the intensity and character the composition needs. Set in warm 18K yellow gold, the result is a modern ring with clean direction, strong colour, and a refined sense of luxury. It would make an individual engagement ring or a meaningful one-of-a-kind piece for an important occasion.
Gemstone Details
- 1 natural oval cut red ruby, 1.62 ct (TW), SI clarity, Type II GIA; Mozambique origin; heat treated only.
- 2 natural brilliant cut diamonds, 0.05 ct (TW), VS clarity, F colour, excellent cut.
Metal, Setting and Wearability
The ring is handmade in solid 18K yellow gold and weighs 5.20 grams. The elongated ruby is set east-west in an open bezel, with two brilliant cut diamonds placed at the sides. The setting follows the ruby’s extended oval outline while leaving much of the stone visible, and the solid gold shank provides a balanced foundation for comfortable wear.

Gemmologist’s Note
This natural Mozambique ruby has a splendid rich red colour. The quality of the colour is the stone’s strongest feature, while its SI clarity remains a good clarity for a natural Type II ruby of this character. The ruby has been heat treated only, a stable treatment used for natural corundum.
Created one piece at a time in our Toronto studio, this ring reflects our work as artisan-goldsmiths and gemmologists, with the natural ruby guiding every decision in the design.
