Design Story

This yellow sapphire ring is one of those feel-good pieces where colour, weight, comfort, and handwork all come together. The 3.34 ct Ceylon sapphire is set east-west in an open bezel, allowing the large oval stone to feel as if it is floating between the engraved shoulders of the shank. The ring is substantial, but everything is rounded inside and out so it feels comfortable on the hand rather than heavy. The intricate scroll pattern, hand engraved by Christian Hasler, moves around the side diamonds and gives the ring a precious heirloom feel. It is a generous one-of-a-kind piece for someone who wants golden colour, craftsmanship, and a ring with presence.

Gemstone Details

• 1 natural oval cut yellow sapphire, 3.34 ct; VS1 clarity (Type II – GIA), Ceylon origin.
• 2 round brilliant cut diamonds, E-F colour, VS1 clarity, 0.12 ct tw.

Metal, Setting and Wearability

The ring is handmade and hand engraved in solid 14K yellow gold and weighs 10.20 grams. The top setting and stone measure approximately 9.50×9.00 mm. The east-west open bezel gives the sapphire a broad, elegant presence across the finger, while the engraved shoulders add detailed craftsmanship and visual depth. The two diamonds bring bright accents at the sides of the sapphire, integrated into the hand-engraved scroll work without taking attention away from the centre yellow sapphire stone.

Gemmologist’s Note

Yellow sapphire is a fancy sapphire from the corundum family, the same mineral species as ruby and blue sapphire, with excellent durability at 9 on the Mohs scale. This Ceylon sapphire has a particularly pure yellow colour, without the greenish or brownish modifiers we often see in yellow sapphires. Its oval mixed cut has more facets than average, giving the larger stone attractive volume and strong brilliance. Yellow sapphire is considered a GIA Type II gemstone, so some inclusions may be present, though fine faceted stones are usually expected to appear clean to the eye. A 3.34 ct Ceylon yellow sapphire with this bright, clean colour gives the ring both warmth and presence.
