Design Story
This pink tourmaline ring was created to be generous in both colour and scale. The 18.8 ct cabochon has a bright, strong pink that immediately gives the piece its personality, while the substantial yellow gold frame provides the structure needed for such a large gemstone. Diamonds placed along the sides bring additional light and richness without taking attention away from the tourmaline. The result is expressive and confident, with the colour, metal, and proportions all working together. It is a one-of-a-kind ring for someone drawn to vivid gemstones and jewellery that makes a clear personal statement.
Gemstone Details
- 1 natural cabochon pink tourmaline, vivid pink colour, SI2 clarity, GIA Type II, 18.8 ct.
- 12 natural brilliant cut diamonds, G-H colour, VS1 clarity, 0.17 ct TW.
Metal, Setting and Wearability
The ring is handmade in solid 14K yellow gold and weighs 10.5 gr. It measures approximately 18.00 x 15.00 mm, giving the design a substantial presence on the hand. The large cabochon is held within a generous gold frame, with the diamonds arranged along the sides to add brightness and definition. The warm gold strengthens the vivid pink colour and gives the ring the richness needed to balance a gemstone of this scale.
This one-of-a-kind ring is available in size 7 1/4 only. If you require a different size, a new ring would need to be made; please contact us to discuss timing and options.
Gemmologist’s Note
Pink tourmaline belongs to the elbaite tourmaline group and is classified as a GIA Type II gemstone, so natural inclusions are commonly present. In a cabochon, those inclusions can contribute to a lively internal appearance, while colour and lustre remain especially important. This stone is notably bright and colourful for a cabochon tourmaline, with the strong pink saturation and generous size giving it an unmistakable presence. The natural diamonds were selected to bring light to the frame while preserving the tourmaline as the centre of the composition.
Made one piece at a time in our Toronto studio, this ring brings together Christian and Helen’s gemstone selection and in-house goldsmithing, with close attention to colour, proportion, and the character of the natural materials.
