Design Story
This ring was designed for a rich but uncomplicated look, allowing the vivid green of the emerald to remain the main attraction. The rounded cabochon has a generous volume and a softer character than a faceted emerald, so we paired it with warm yellow gold rather than adding accent stones or unnecessary detail. The clean outline and strong colour contrast give the ring presence, while its simplicity makes it easy to wear. It is a one-of-a-kind design for someone drawn to natural emeralds with colour, personality, and an organic visual softness.
Gemstone Details
- 1 natural oval cabochon emerald, vivid green colour, SI1 clarity, Type III GIA, 2.02 ct; Zambian origin. Minor Oil.
Metal, Setting and Wearability
The ring is handmade in solid 14K yellow gold and weighs 3.60 grams. The emerald is held within a low frame by leaf-pattern prongs, giving the cabochon a secure setting while keeping its rounded surface open to view. The top measures approximately 9.3 x 7.2 mm, creating a noticeable yet comfortable everyday ring.

Gemmologist’s Note
Cabochon cutting is particularly effective for an emerald with attractive colour, body, and lustre. This Zambian emerald has pleasing volume and life, with the saturated colour needed to remain expressive in a simple gold setting. As a Type III gemstone, its natural inclusions are part of the emerald’s identity rather than a reason to expect the appearance of an eye-clean faceted stone.
Created one piece at a time in our Toronto studio, this ring reflects our focus on natural gemstones, thoughtful settings, and jewellery handmade in-house by Christian and Helen.
