Design Story

This one-of-a-kind ring balances delicacy with an unexpectedly impressive presence. The natural peach sapphire has a soft orangy-pink colour that feels gentle and romantic, while its broad face-up appearance gives the centre stone a scale of a larger sapphire. We surrounded it with a fine halo of bead-set natural diamonds in an antique-inspired pattern, bringing a touch of old-world detail to a ring that remains modern and wearable. The halo follows the oval shape closely, adding light without competing with the sapphire’s colour. It is refined enough for an engagement ring, yet distinctive enough to appeal to someone looking for a less conventional centre stone and a design with personal character.

• 1 natural oval mixed cut peach sapphire, 1.68 ct, 7.48 × 6.65 mm, VS clarity; orangy-pink colour.
• 8 natural brilliant cut diamonds, G colour, VS clarity, 0.10 ct total.

Metal, Setting and Wearability

The ring is handmade in solid 14K gold and weighs 3.35 g. The oval sapphire is set at the centre of an antique-inspired halo, with eight bead-set diamonds following its outline and adding a fine border of light. Its balanced scale makes the ring suitable for an engagement, a personal milestone, or regular wear by someone drawn to softer colour.

Gemmologist’s Note

Sapphire belongs to the corundum family and occurs naturally in a much wider range of colours than blue alone. Peach sapphire sits between pink and orange, and the balance of those tones can vary greatly from one stone to another. We chose this sapphire for its lovely soft colour, quality, and unusually generous face-up appearance: at 1.68 ct, it presents visually closer to some sapphires approaching two carats. The oval mixed cut combines brightness with a broad spread, giving the stone both delicacy of colour and a confident presence in the finished ring.

Created by Christian and Helen in our Toronto studio, this ring reflects our work as artisan-goldsmiths and gemmologists, from the selection of the natural peach sapphire to the proportions and finish of its handmade setting.
