18K Yellow Gold Ruby Ring

Design Story

We designed this ring with generosity in mind, allowing the oval ruby to feel richly present on the hand. Its broad face-up appearance gives the stone a scale beyond what its carat weight might suggest, so the design was kept confident and rounded rather than delicate. Warm 18K yellow gold strengthens the ruby’s red colour, while four diamonds add small points of brightness at the sides without competing with the centre stone. The result is a substantial one-of-a-kind ruby ring with a rich but approachable character, created for someone who enjoys colour, presence, and jewellery that feels important without becoming overly formal.

Gemstone Details

• 1 natural oval cut ruby, 1.85 ct (TW), SI2 clarity, Type II GIA, very good cut; Tanzanian origin; heat treated.
• 4 natural brilliant cut diamonds, 0.05 ct (TW), VS clarity, F-G colour, excellent cut.

Metal, Setting and Wearability

The ring is handmade in solid 18K yellow gold and weighs 6.20 grams. The ruby is held in a generous bezel setting above a well-rounded shank, with four diamonds set into the sides of the bezel as a discreet finishing detail. The top setting measures approximately 9.20 x 11.10 mm, giving the ring a substantial scale while the smooth metal edges and rounded band support comfortable wear.

Gemmologist’s Note

Ruby is the red variety of corundum and is classified as a Type II under GIA coloured gemstone clarity scale, so some natural inclusions are normally expected. This Tanzanian ruby has a lively appearance and notably generous face-up dimensions for its 1.85 ct weight. Its oval cut spreads the colour across a broad surface, giving the stone strong visual presence in the finished ring. The ruby has been heat treated, a stable and widely accepted treatment for natural corundum.
